John Martin ReservoirJohn Martin Reservoir is located in high plains of southeast Colorado. It was completed in 1948 as a part of a comprehensive plan for flood damage reduction and water resources management in the Arkansas River Basin. The water surface can vary from 3,000 acres to 15,000 acres depending on the inflow and outflow. The reservoir and surrounding area offer a myriad of recreational opportunities including camping, fishing, boating, hunting, swimming and viewing of a diverse animal and bird population. A portion of the Santa Fe Trail is preserved for visitor viewing. Other important historical sites are located within a short drive from the reservoir.
